民進黨總統參選人黨主席蔡英文此次訪美行，針對未來兩岸政策說法一再調整，最新說法是九二共識可繼續「求同存異」，兩岸大陸事務主管固定溝通管道可繼續維持。雖說已較之前拒絕承認九二共識略有轉圜，但這種見風轉舵式的說法，仍難以獲得信任，尤其是大陸方面對其仍有極大疑慮。
蔡英文雖多次重申對兩岸維持現狀的立場，在中華民國憲政體制下，依循普遍民意，持續推動兩岸關係的和平穩定發展。但她從未清楚表示是否接受兩岸建立的溝通基礎「九二共識」，對兩岸如何維持現狀也採取模糊策略。
但蔡英文可能忘了，兩岸交流和溝通管道是雙向的，並非一廂情願。在未承認九二共識基礎之下，大陸可能在蔡英文如願選上中華民國總統之後，關閉溝通管道，緊閉協商大門，停止兩岸官方交流，縮小民間交流規模。果真如此，蔡英文要如何維持兩岸現狀？如何繼續求同存異？
為了維持目前領先優勢，蔡英文可以繼續採取模糊策略來避免清楚論述兩岸政策，但這也將影響未來兩岸的交流及局勢穩定，先不論大陸方面能不能忍受「模糊蔡」，台灣民眾是否能接受？蔡英文可能需考慮清楚。
